The European Commission has introduced specific rules for issuing multiple-entry visas to Indian nationals. These rules are notably more favorable compared to the standard regulations of the Visa Code.

Key Highlights:

Easier Access: Indian travelers applying for Schengen (short-stay) visas in India will now have easier access to visas with multi-year validity.
Visa "Cascade" Regime: Under this new regime, Indian nationals residing in India can now obtain long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas with a validity of two years. This comes after obtaining and lawfully using two visas within the previous three years.

Extended Validity: Following the two-year visa, travelers may qualify for a five-year visa if their passport has sufficient validity remaining. This means smoother and longer-term travel opportunities for frequent visitors to Europe.

Equivalent Travel Rights: Holders of these long-term visas will enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals throughout the validity period.
